Pack & Play

Our Annual Family Thanksgiving Getaway

A Different Kind of Thanksgiving Tradition

Thanksgiving week has quietly become one of our most meaningful family traditions. While many homes are busy setting tables and juggling schedules, we pack up and head out for a week away. It is our way of pausing before the holiday season fully begins.

This change of scenery gives us space to slow down. Without the usual distractions, we are reminded of what the season is really about. Time together. Shared meals. Room to breathe.

Days Made for Kids

Mornings belonged to the kids. Bikes and scooters lined up early, and laughter echoed through the paths as cousins chased one another from one end of the grounds to the other. There were no alarms. No schedules. Just the kind of free play that feels increasingly rare.

Watching them move through the day so freely was a reminder of how little children really need to be happy. Space, time, and each other.

A Thanksgiving Buffet We Look Forward To

Our Thanksgiving meal was relaxed, comforting, and exactly right for the week we were having. Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, we gathered around a buffet filled with familiar favorites and plenty of options for everyone.

On the menu:

  • Smoked and cajun turkey
  • HoneyBaked ham
  • Dressing
  • Candied yams
  • Green beans
  • Collard greens
  • Mac and cheese
  • Mashed potatoes and gravy
  • Confetti corn
  • Cornbread

It was the kind of meal where everyone went back for seconds and no one worried about timing or presentation. Just good food shared with people we love.

Slow Moments That Stay With You

Between meals, we took quiet walks along the pond, watching tall grasses sway with the breeze. These slower moments always become the most memorable. They ground us and remind us how restorative it can be to step away, even briefly.

The fall colors were especially beautiful this year. One bright tree even stopped us mid–mini golf game. It was too perfect not to admire. Moments like that feel like small gifts scattered throughout the week.

A Reset Before the Season Ahead

This annual Thanksgiving getaway gives us something we all need. A reset. It strips the holiday down to its essentials and lets us enter the season feeling connected instead of rushed.

Family time does not need to be perfect to be meaningful. A relaxed meal, a few shared laughs, and a little cousin chaos are more than enough.
